The Revolt of the Viscountcy of Cabrera – March 16 and 17 in Arbúcies

The Viscountcy of Cabrera has risen up against the troops of King Peter the Ceremonious, who have occupied the Arbúcies Valley and aim to conquer Montsoriu Castle. Peasants, artisans, soldiers, nobles… Experience and take part in this journey back in time.

The storyline of this historical reenactment event centers on events that took place nearly 650 years ago in the Arbúcies Valley, set against the backdrop of the Viscountcy of Cabrera’s revolt following the execution of Viscount Bernat II by royal authorities. These events had a profound impact on the entire Arbúcies Valley and culminated in the famous siege of Montsoriu Castle by royal troops—a force of 1,200 men—between 1367 and 1368.

The medieval event is structured around two main areas. The first is the royal camp, where visitors can observe and participate in a range of activities along the site (troop tents, military drills, siege engine construction, the armorer’s workshop, camp cooking, combat demonstrations, etc.). The second is the “Espai Cabrera” (Cabrera Space) at the Montseny Ethnological Museum, which will host various activities, such as the “Scriptorium” medieval calligraphy workshop and a series of talks: The Viscounts of Cabrera: The Power of a Great Dynasty; Ladies of Montsoriu: Politics and Power in Women’s Hands in the Medieval Era; and Montsoriu 3D. Research and new technologies in a pioneering project.
