The La Selva County Council, together with 25 municipalities and institutions linked to the former domains of the Viscounts of Girona-Cabrera, is launching the “En Ruta amb els Cabrera…” (On the Road with the Cabreras…) program. This cultural agenda features nearly 50 activities focused on history and heritage outreach, taking place over the course of two months.
Talks, guided tours, exhibitions, dramatized itineraries, and other events will allow the public to rediscover the legacy of one of Catalonia’s most important noble dynasties and highlight the value of their tangible and intangible heritage.
A joint initiative involving institutions and the local area
One of the program’s most significant aspects is its collaborative organization: town councils, archives, museums, and cultural groups have joined forces to make this initiative possible, strengthening the sense of ownership regarding the project and expanding its reach to diverse audiences.
The first activity begins on Saturday, October 11, in L’Esquirol, and the program concludes on December 13 in Modica, Sicily—where the Cabreras became Counts of Modica in the late 14th century and where a spectacular heritage legacy still remains.
The program demonstrates the vitality of this project, which highlights the historical centers of the dynasty’s medieval domains—such as Montsoriu, Breda, Hostalric, and Blanes—as well as other key heritage sites, including Lloret de Mar, Palafolls, Roda de Ter, Sant Esteve de Palautordera, Àger, Modica, and Ragusa.
Seven new heritage sites of the Viscountcy of Cabrera now feature interpretive signage.
