Church of Sant Miquel

RELIGIOUS ROUTE

The Viscountcy of Cabrera was a territory which, from a religious point of view, was made up of a number of parishes, each with its own churches and sanctuaries providing religious services to the local community. There were also several monasteries belonging to different religious orders.

The church stands on the site of the Romanesque chapel of Anglès Castle, first mentioned in documents from the early 13th century and closely linked to the Cabrera viscountly family, the lords of the castle. The Romanesque church remained in place until the late 16th or early 17th century, when it was renovated and enlarged in a late Renaissance style with several Baroque elements. It underwent further renovations on several occasions, continuing well into the 20th century.
