The church has been documented since the year 947, when it was under the authority of the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, and was consecrated as a parish church in 1079. The current building is the result of various extensions carried out over the course of a millennium, beginning with a rectangular nave oriented east to west, with added chapels. Notable features include the portal from 1502, inscribed with the words Joan Desclapers batlle dono aquest portal l’any 1502 (I, Joan Desclapers, mayor, hereby donate this portal in the year 1502); the 16th-century defence tower; the majestic 15th-century bell tower; and the Romanesque south wall, crowned with Lombard arcading, where the original entrance to the medieval church remains visible, bearing witness to the great architectural and historical value of this church.
