Sant Pere Sestronques was initially a sufragan diocese of the neighbouring church of Sant Amanç, and, later on, it was subject to Sant Martí Sapresa. The latest architectonical studies of the hermitage indicate that its construction was undertaken in the 10th century, although several theories point to a 9th century (Pre-Romanesque) origin, due to the discovery of a window with a horseshoe arc on the north face, during restoration work in 1994.
