ADMINISTRATIVE ROUTE

The material remains of this administration and its governing institutions are still visible in several places throughout the Viscountcy. The Viscountcy of Cabrera was a territory with dynamic commercial activity, centred on its markets, and it also benefited from good connections with maritime routes.

The Gothic fountain was commissioned by Bernat Joan de Cabrera, Viscount of Cabrera, and the town’s clothworkers’ guild from the stonemason Pere Torrent, who had completed it by 1443. It is the best-preserved fountain of Catalan civil Gothic architecture and one of the most important in Europe. Local microgranite was used in its construction, as well as stone from Girona and limestone from Mallorca for the decorative elements.
