The material remains of this administration and its governing institutions are still visible in several places throughout the Viscountcy. The Viscountcy of Cabrera was a territory with dynamic commercial activity, centred on its markets, which constituted its main areas of influence, and it also benefited from good connections with maritime routes.

The Gothic fountain was a work promoted by Bernat Joan de Cabrera, Viscount of Cabrera, and the town's barbers' guild, commissioned from the stonemason Pere Torrent, who had already completed it in 1443. It is the best-preserved example of Catalan civil Gothic architecture and one of the most important in Europe. Local microgranite was used for its construction, but also stone from Girona and limestone from Mallorca for the decorative elements.
