RELIGIOUS ROUTE

The Viscountcy of Cabrera was a territory which, from a religious point of view, was made up of a number of parishes, each with its own churches and hermitages providing religious services to the local community. The territory also included several monasteries belonging to different religious orders.

This church was originally dedicated to sant Esteve, but in the 19th century its dedication was changed to Santa Susanna. It is mentioned in documents from the 14th century, and in 1448 the Bishop of Girona annexed it to the parish of Vidreres. Its architectural features suggest that its origins date back to around the year 1000, with a rectangular nave and a trapezoidal pre-Romanesque chancel. The roof consists of a semicircular barrel vault. The sacristy was added on the north side, along with a chapel dedicated to the Verge del Roser in the 19th century. On the south side stood a cemetery that remained in use until the end of the 20th century, when it was relocated to Vidreres.
