Once the centre of the former barony, this medieval fortification stands on a hill that gave it strategic and defensive importance. The remains visible today are the result of successive extensions up to the 15th century, beginning with a tower built in the 10th century, when the structure formed part of the defensive system of the feudal territories of the county of Barcelona. The castle was the residence of the Lords of Palafolls until the 14th century, a period during which several renovations and extensions were carried out. The upper enclosure predates the lower enclosure, which includes a parade ground. Over time, the fortification fell into disuse. However, today it is a valuable heritage and tourist site with spectacular views of the coast and the Montnegre Massif.
