The Montfort Tower is found at the separation of the municipal districts of Riells and Viabrea and Arbúcies, upon the hill of the same name which connects and overlooks both valleys. It is a military construction made up of a circular tower surrounded by a small walled area, constructed in different phases between the 12th, 13th and the first half of the 14th centuries. The defensive details can still be seen, such as the embrasure in the tower and the steep defensive wall. In the medieval period, it was part of the defensive system of Montsoriu, the principal castle of the viscount of Cabrera, from which it was visible, carrying out the role of vanguard watchtower and control of the zone and its communication links.
